Admissions Process
Thank you for your interest in enrolling your child at The Potter’s House Christian Academy. It is a great blessing to serve you, the community of Jacksonville, and the surrounding areas.
In an effort to simplify the registration process, we have put together a Pre-Registration Package to provide parents with our basic admissions policy as well as information needed prior to making a decision concerning your child’s potential enrollment in our school. The package includes general admission requirements, a Registration Form, and a Pre-registration Policy Acceptance Form. The Upper School package also includes the following forms: Prospective Upper School Student Information, Reference – Character Reference – Discipline.
General Requirements
- All new students must have a 2.0 GPA or “C” average in core subjects, a minimum score of 90 on the Otis-Lennon School Ability Index and stanine of 4 or higher on the Stanford Achievement Test or pass the FCAT.
- Students who scored below grade level on an achievement test (grades 1 – 12 only) or whose GPA is below 2.0 or a “C” average will be referred for entrance testing.
- Administration will contact the parents to schedule an appointment for testing. The non-refundable testing fee is $30.
- If the perspective student passes the admissions test, his/her parent will be directed to the school office for a Registration Packet to complete the student’s enrollment. (See No. 3 below) All Upper School student must be interviewed.
- If the perspective student passes the admissions test but the scores are low, the student may be allowed to register on a provisional basis. The parent will receive written documentation of the provisional stipulations.
- If the perspective student does not pass the admissions test, the student will not be allowed to register.
- Students who meet the general admission requirement will be issued a Registration Packet, which includes the Contract and Request for Records. A Member Discount Application is available for those who qualify.
- PLEASE NOTE: Children entering kindergarten (K-4 and K-5) for the first time, as well as students enrolling from out of state, MUST submit a physical examination dated within the calendar year they enroll, an up-to-date Florida Immunization Certificate (Form 680) and a copy of their birth certificate. All students entering 7th grade must have completed the hepatitis B series and scoliosis screening. A copy of the immunization record along will not be sufficient to enroll a child in kindergarten.
Children entering K-4 or K-5 must be four or five years of age respectively ON OR BEFORE October 1st. Children whose birthday falls in the month of October, but after the 1st may be eligible for early admission if they score 90% accuracy or higher on the Slosson Intelligence Test and score satisfactory on the PHCA Academic Entrance Exam. A testing fee of $30 is required. - Students with a history of behavior problems or significant academic challenges may not be accepted solely on the basis of completion of the enrollment application. Therefore, an interview may be requested for further clarification.
- Home-schooled students may enroll with the following documentation:
- Proof of current grade-level (standardized test scores or an evaluated portfolio)
- A copy of Intent to Home School letter from authorized agency.
- The regular documents required for all students (i.e., up-to-date school physical, immunization records, birth certificate and social security card).
- Returning students in good standing may re-enroll during the re-enrollment registration period at 50% off the registration fee. They must obtain the necessary enrollment forms from the school office, complete and return them within the allotted time frame. Enrollment is based upon first come, first served regardless of whether you are a new or returning student.
- All transfer students from public or private schools must adhere to the same enrollment guidelines listed above.
